Joel helps clients make sense of disputes and take the right next step

Joel Laidlow advises on civil and commercial disputes, acting for individuals, businesses, and organisations where clarity, timing, and outcomes matter.

His work spans contract and commercial disputes, construction matters, company law issues, and insolvency. He has experience in the District Court and High Court, and contributes to more complex litigation as part of the wider team.

Clients rely on Joel to cut through the detail and focus on what matters. He takes a structured, practical approach to disputes, helping clients understand their position, assess risk, and decide how best to proceed.

Before joining Gibson Sheat, Joel worked in litigation focused practices, where he was involved in a wide range of civil and commercial disputes. Earlier in his career, he gained experience in Waitangi Tribunal matters and Family Court proceedings, giving him exposure to different dispute environments.

Joel was admitted to the bar in September 2022 and holds an LLB from the University of Auckland. He grew up in Silverstream and attended Upper Hutt College.

Outside of work, Joel enjoys sport including rugby, basketball, biking, fishing, and snowboarding.
